The Maree Steinway Trio
This trio is sophistication. The basic recipe is a measure of piano, vocal, bass and drums blended to make a colourful harmony, sensitive utilization of dynamics, and it creates a mood of sophistication with music that is pretty and swinging.
If you enjoy the music and lyrics of such writers as George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Rogers and Hart, Antonio Carlos Jobim plus some post 60's re-workings of Bert Bacharach played by the classic style jazz trio this one's for you.
Maree Steinway first lead her own trio in her native New Zealand following her success of her recordings for Radio New Zealand's "Jazz Tonight". Since coming to Australia she has worked as a solo performer and played and sang with a variety of bands in most vernaculars including Latin, Gospel, Rhythm & Blues and Jazz. Maree is an accomplished arranger and her work is featured on recordings of popular vocalists such as Janet Seidel and David McLeod. She looks forward to including her imaginative and lyrical arrangements of her work in her own trio.
Versatile Sydney bassist, Winston Sterling, began playing jazz with groups at the renowned El Rocco and Mocambo before joining the Sydney Symphony Orchestra of which he remained a member for over 30 years playing and touring under the baton of many distinguished conductors. Win also continued to play jazz and his recent retirement from the S.S.O. has allowed him to concentrate on this, his first love as well as art work.
Norman Nichols studied percussion in London with leading British drummer, Eric Delaney. He worked in Finland playing with a television orchestra and several professional bands. Since moving to Australia Norman has played with a variety of groups from big bands for television shows to smaller groups around the club circuit and at private functions. Norman is delighted to be playing with the Maree Steinway Trio.
